The 2023 season has officially kicked off, it’s great seeing boats on the Clyde and Lochs. Please stay safe on the water and be prepared.
We have put together a some checks before setting out on the water and information from the RLNI to help keep you safe while on the water.
Outboard Engine Checks
We found a really useful checklist from the RLNI, we encourage our customers to read through this. Knowing your outboard could make the difference between having to call for help and being able to help yourself.
Fuel is one of the major causes of outboard issues; Do not use any fuel that you may have from last season, if you have old fuel, clean out your tank thoroughly before replenishing with fresh fuel and we recommend using a fuel stabiliser

Lifejackets
Wearing a lifejacket dramatically increases your chances of survival until help arrives. It is imperative that your lifejacket is correctly fitted and properly maintained.

Plan Ahead
Always carry a means of calling/signalling for help and make sure someone ashore knows where you are going and who to call if you don’t return on time. Have an emergency action plan in place i.e. location and use of the safety equipment, including the spare kill cord. Finally, check the weather and tide times.
